I spent a lovely week in May in Mexico the home of beautiful beaches and Mayan culture.
On arrival in Cancun we headed 2 hours north to the beautiful island of Holbox off the Yucatan Peninsula. The car-free island between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico is rich in marine life such as sea turtles and whale sharks. It has a lovely laid back vibe and you can experience the chilled atmosphere whilst sampling some excellent Mexican dishes (the fish tacos at a beachside restaurant come highly recommended) You can hire bikes, buggies or take a walk along the beaches or the meandering sandy paths whilst soaking up some rays.
After a very pleasant stay we moved to the Riviera Maya not far from Tulum where we were able
to discover the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza (one of the seven wonders of the world, an amazing experience not to be missed)
