In December I visited Munich, Germany for the Christmas Markets for a weekend break. Munich is a fantastic city to visit at Christmastime, there was a variety of Christmas Markets throughout the city ranging from traditional gifts to food and drink. The city was reasonably priced, the typical tourist locations were slightly more expensive.
I also visited the Nymphenburg Palace and Carriage Museum – this was a stop on the ‘hop on hop off’ bus – a great way to get around the city. The Palace itself has large grounds and beautiful interiors, the carriage museum boasts a jaw dropping display of horse drawn carriage and sleighs. Also, a walk through the ‘English Garden’ is delightful, we were lucky enough to see it covered in snow – very pretty.
Food and drink in Munich is typically traditional German food, there are a variety of famous Beer Halls that are a must-see! There is a large ice rink in the centre of the city and there is plenty mulled wine and beer to be had.
I can highly recommend visiting Munich for a weekend break especially at Christmastime.
