20 unforgettable days aboard the Fred. Olsen Balmoral.
This was my first fly-cruise, travelling from Manchester to Dubrovnik — and from the very start, everything ran seamlessly. With Fred. Olsen’s dedicated check-in desk with Jet2, both the Manchester departure and Malaga return were smooth, simple, and stress-free.
From the moment we arrived in Dubrovnik, the adventure unfolded beautifully. Over the following 3 weeks, we explored some of the most captivating destinations in the Mediterranean — each offering its own unique magic and memories.
In Athens, we stood in awe of the Acropolis and Parthenon, surrounded by ancient history and breathtaking views. In Ephesus, we wandered through remarkably preserved ruins that told stories thousands of years old. In Istanbul, we marvelled at the magnificent Blue Mosque, soaking in the sights, sounds, and energy of this vibrant city.
The Greek islands were every bit as spectacular — Santorini dazzled with its whitewashed cliffs and postcard-perfect sunsets, while Crete welcomed us with rugged coastlines, friendly locals, and some lovely places to shop. We spent three wonderful days docked in Rhodes, giving us time to truly explore its medieval streets, charming harbour, and relaxed pace of life.
Some great shopping was done in Turkey and a couple of sea days were needed to “chill out” after non stop port hopping, from there we continued to Malta and finally on to Malaga, where the warmth of Spain was the perfect ending to a truly magical journey.
Between ports, there were moments of pure joy — beautiful beaches, gorgeous coastal towns, hop on buses and mini trains and that unmistakable Mediterranean atmosphere that makes every day feel special.
As Tour Manager, I made it my mission to ensure everyone in our Regent group was happy, comfortable, and having fun — often clocking up well over 10,000 steps a day, even on sea days! Whether checking in on guests or sharing stories on deck, it was such a joy to see everyone making the most of this incredible voyage.
We celebrated three birthdays and an anniversary at our first sitting table, and while the Fred. Olsen evening entertainment was excellent, I have to say I found plenty of extra laughs and “bonus entertainment” from the brilliant second sitting table in Ballindalloch — you know who you are!
This journey has been filled with laughter, history, and heartfelt moments. I’m so grateful for the memories made, the places discovered, and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.
From ancient wonders to new friendships, this Mediterranean cruise was truly a voyage to remember.
