A Canadian Adventure
After nearly two unforgettable weeks in Canada, I’ve returned home with a heart full of memories and a camera roll bursting with photos. It’s hard to believe it’s been 13 years since my last visit and experiencing the country again reminded me once more why Canada is such an incredible destination. From bustling cities to serene mountains and crystal-clear lakes, every stop offered something unforgettable.
Toronto: Big City Energy and Lake Views
We began our adventure in Toronto, spending three nights soaking up the city. To start, we hopped on a Sightseeing Bus Tour, which was such a fun and easy way to get around and get our bearings.
We hopped off at Nathan Phillips Square to see the iconic Toronto sign (and, of course, take the obligatory family photo!) and of course, no visit would be complete without heading up the CN Tower for panoramic views of the city skyline.
One of my favourite experiences in Toronto was the cruise on Lake Ontario, included in our tour ticket. Gliding past the islands with the city skyline behind us was simply spectacular — a must-do for anyone visiting!
The next day, we took a private tour to Niagara Falls. It’s hard to put into words how magnificent the falls are up close. We started our visit with the Zipline to the Falls (an absolute thrill!), followed by the boat trip right up to the base of the cascades. After drying off, we continued to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a picturesque town made even more magical by the golden autumn colours.
Banff: Mountains, Lakes, and Glaciers
From Toronto, we flew west to Calgary and caught the shuttle to Banff, our base for the next four nights. We stayed at the Moxy Hotel, a stylish and comfortable spot about a 20-minute walk from downtown Banff.
One of the highlights of our stay was the full-day excursion to the Athabasca Glacier on the Icefields Parkway. We were lucky enough to experience some early snow, which made the scenery even more enchanting. Along the way, we stopped at Lake Louise, Bow Lake, and my personal favourite — the impossibly blue Peyto Lake.
Another memorable moment was riding the Banff Gondola for breathtaking views of the Rockies. The boardwalk to Sanson’s Peak offered the perfect vantage point to soak in the mountain majesty. That evening, we joined a sunset and stargazing tour at Lake Moraine, where the night sky was so clear we could see countless stars and even satellites gliding above us.
By this point, autumn had fully arrived in Banff National Park, with crisp air and average temperatures around 3°C — perfect for cozy layers and hot chocolate stops! On our final day, we enjoyed a peaceful walk to Vermilion Lakes and a relaxed afternoon exploring Downtown Banff.
Calgary: Wildlife, Thanksgiving, and Farewell Views
The last leg of our trip took us back to Calgary, where we checked into the Sandman Hotel Downtown. With a rental car, we ventured beyond the city to visit the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary — a truly special experience. We joined the Interactive Tour, allowing us to step into the enclosures, feed the wolfdogs, and learn more about these fascinating animals and their conservation.
During our stay, we also experienced our first Canadian Thanksgiving — celebrated earlier than in the U.S. — and enjoyed the warmth and hospitality that came with it. We spent our final days exploring Calgary, shopping for souvenirs, and soaking up the city’s laid-back charm.
To end our adventure on a high note, we had dinner at the 360 Restaurant atop the Calgary Tower. The revolving view of the city paired with a delicious meal was the perfect way to toast an incredible holiday before our flight home.
Final Thoughts
From vibrant city skylines to majestic mountains, sparkling lakes, and fascinating wildlife, every part of this trip reminded me why Canada holds such a special place in my heart.
Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, there’s something about Canada that stays with you long after you leave. I know it won’t be another 13 years before I go back.
